Further Information about Tu Tangi Ora Waka Ama


Waka Ama Values: 

The whole foundation around Waka Ama is built on values, our core 4 values are 

  • Manaakitanga - Reciprocity (a practise of exchanging things for mutual benefit) & Inclusivity (a practise or policy of providing equal access to opportunities and resources for people who might otherwise be excluded)
  • Hauora - Well-being (a state of being comfortable, healthy and happy)
  • Whanaungatanga - Belonging, Identity and collective strength
  • Tu Tangata - Accountability, respect, integrity & passion

By upholding these values, we aim to develop a culture of sharing, building and maintaining positive relationships with fellow paddlers, adopting a healthy and active lifestyle, and treating everyone with respect.


Communication:

Our main form of communication is via Facebook. This has proven to be quite successful as we have either the paddler or a parent/caregiver on Facebook. Training reminders will be on Facebook Messenger groupchats and there is often a poll for paddlers to indicate whether they can make it to training.

Club Events:

Tu Tangi Ora Waka Ama is fortunate to have adult paddlers and Kaipara College paddlers. Those paddlers that compete under the umbrella of Tu Tangi Ora will need to purchase a racing top at the cost of $55. There is an 8-12 week lead time as tops are manufactured overseas. A post via Facebook regarding ordering of Tu Tangi Ora Race Tops will have a link in which you can order. Please note if there is an event you wish to compete in before the arrival of order, we have tops that can be borrowed.

For each event, an event page will be created through Facebook. This is where you will be given all the information regarding uniform to wear, entry fees, venues, maps, times to be at venue etc. Links will be posted in Messenger groups to register paddler interest for an event through the Tu Tangi Ora website. For Kaipara College events, the school sports departmenr will organise the sharing of information to students and their whanau.
